Account & privacy information
SecretBook stores your account identifier, display name and verified email when provided. Passwords are stored as salted scrypt hashes. Passkeys store public keys and device metadata; fingerprint and face data remain with your device.
Provider accounts remain separate. SecretBook does not automatically merge accounts by email. Email sign-in requires a one-time code, valid for ten minutes in the requesting browser. Secure cookies maintain sign-in and protect authentication challenges.
Drafts in the writing studio are saved in your browser under your member account. Automatic writing jobs and character conversations are saved on the server and require sign-in. AI requests send the content you submit to the configured AI provider to generate a response.
You may create a limited writing preview without an account. A secure, HttpOnly browser cookie identifies your preview; a hashed network identifier and usage counters limit automated abuse and costs. Preview ideas, writing instructions and generated passages are temporarily stored for up to seven days. Joining from the same browser can copy your preview into your account. Creating a free account does not register a payment card or start a recurring subscription.
Keep a backup of your manuscript. Username/password accounts currently do not offer password reset. Email and provider sign-in are available only after the corresponding service configuration is complete.
Profiles, community and shared editions
Community profiles are optional and private by default. Your chosen pen name, optional biography, occupation, age range, avatar and banner are stored in account storage. No birth date is collected by the community profile. A profile age range is not age verification. Choose private, friends-only or public visibility.
Posts, photos, videos, comments, recommendations, friend requests, blocks and private messages are stored on the server. Uploaded media retain the file you provide; check files for personal information before sharing. Public posts appear in the lounge and may appear on the homepage. Friends-only and private posts are excluded from public browsing. Changing profile visibility restricts access to its shared posts, works and associated media through SecretBook. Previously downloaded or copied material cannot be recalled.
Publishing a book requires a separate explicit action. A shared edition is a snapshot, separate from the working manuscript. Unlisted editions can be read by anyone with the link and the link can be forwarded. Introduction-only editions do not share chapter text. You can hide posts and works and restore them from your profile; hiding is not permanent deletion. Ranking participation is optional and uses account recommendations.
Member messages are separate from AI character conversations. Messages are visible to the sender and recipient through their accounts; they are not end-to-end encrypted. Message content is not sent to the writing AI by this community feature. You can limit new messages to friends, allow conversation requests or turn incoming messages off. Blocking restricts further interactions and viewing through signed-in community accounts; public information may still be visible when signed out. Reports are stored for administrator review. Avoid using this service to share confidential or sensitive information.
